In the Village of Washingtonville the big annual events are often separated into more boisterous-fun events in the evening, and more community building and child-friendly events at the sprawling Vernon Allen Park during the day.. This Halloween was no exception, Music and a food festival always enhance the mood, and with a chill in the air the "Foodies" were in their glory along a line of food vendors that this year were specifically invited because they brought a wide variety of ethnic specialties.
As is always the case, the favorite of the Halloween Event was THE GRINCH. I can attest personally that this Grinch gave the best hugs, and I'm still wondering who was under the green. He led a lengthy parade of fans around the park with the march becoming more of a joyous dance-along.

Trunk or Treat was such a success that the cars were spread almost 100 ft., with trunks filled with goodies.
With a somewhat smaller crowd than, say, at the Fourth of July Festivities, there was time for old friends to chat, tell stories, and catch up on goings on with family and home. Families in a hurry do last minute creative touches, but for the the many kids (and some adults) who make a big deal of the costume tradition it makes childhood memories for a lifetime.
Sean Giery came over from his "Dun Dreamin" Farm in Campbell Hall and made the day with some gentle giant draft horses taking folks on a hayride "Dun Dreamin" name comes from Sean finally trading in his years with FDNY and his commission in the USAF to happily give the community hay rides and buggy rides for weddings and other events. He has 2 farms, one in Campbell Hall and another in Tennessee where he will go after treating folks to a visit from Santa.

And it was not only children and adults in costumes. A few of the top ten costumes were worn by puppies. And they were clearly as happy to show off their special attire as the kids. This pup below practically begged to have his picture taken, and just loved to prance around and show off.
