Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) recently awarded Senate Commendations to Washingtonville resident Joely Zarra and her daughter, Zialyse.
Joely and Zialyse have created a ‘giving tree’ in their hometown, collecting donations of gently used hats, scarves, gloves, and blankets which they wash, pack into bags, and hang on the tree for anyone in need. Zialyse, who is 7, was inspired by a similar effort in Pine Bush started by her friend, Michael.
“The Zarra family embody the
very meaning of charity – going out of their way to ensure their neighbors never have to go without warmth during the long winter months,” said Senator Skoufis. “I am honored to present Joely and Zialyse with these commendations – a small token of our gratitude for their ongoing generosity.”
