Sewell Park - Village of Washingtonville Celebrates First Planting

Sewell family members, friends and the Blooming Grove Conservation Advisory Committee took the perfect opportunity, Washingtonville Community Day, to bring some beauty to this exciting new park.

Bryana Sewell and her husband John Bova

Bryana Sewell and her husband John Bova. said they are very excited to be a part of it, "So happy to help with the revamping of the Naomi Sewell Richarson Park, excited to see what it will look likewhen it's finished.  Most importantly to remember an icon in this community."

Stay tuned for lots of coming announcements as FEMA completes its final review of the park plans, clarifying rules about plantings by the Moodna Creek complete with trees, shrubs and garden beds, all native pollinaters. They are expected to help prevent erosion in the area while beautifying this 1+ acre site which is right near the Village Center.  Included in the plans is a concrete bandstand, something Mayor Tom Devinko is looking forward to so the Village can enjoy some sweet Summer Concerts. We’ve got a ways to go, but things are getting started.

One of the most exciting things about this project is that Washingtonville High school Students are participating in the process, learning about the benefits of each kind of vegetation and their contribution to soil quality. And, on top of that we have heard that they may receive some curriculum credit for their work.

Assisting with the planting on Saturday were: Jean Galli, Alec Galli, Ryne Kitzrow, Kaitlin Kitzrow, Dan Jobbins, Gavin Chaing (Washingtonville High School student), and Bryana Sewell and John Bova of the Sewell family.

CAC member Kate Ahmadi and Blooming Grove Council member Johanna Kiernan took some photos that will make a nice addition to the Park's history album.
