Senator Skoufis - Obtains Funding for Paving Route 207/300 in New Windsor & Johnson Rd. in Chester

Skoufis and Bedetti Visit Site of Long-Awaited Re-Paving on Route 207

Senator James Skoufis (D-Orange County) and Supervisor Stephen Bedetti (R-New Windsor) recently took first-hand stock of the long-awaited repaving project on Route 207 in New Windsor that Skoufis helped to advocate for. The stretch of 207 undergoing repair is part of a New York State Department of Transportation’s multi-million dollar capital improvement. This project will pave both lanes of road from the intersection of Route 207/300 west to Vance Road to improve the quality and safety of the pavement. The project will also improve drainage and address traffic signals on the highly trafficked road.

“Improvement and upkeep of our local roads for the safety of the traveling public ought to be a top priority,” said Senator Skoufis. “Route 207 is a well-traveled road, especially in the morning and late afternoon as folks commute to and from work. I have advocated with DOT for this work to be done and I am glad to see it getting accomplished. There is a lot more work to be done throughout Orange County and I will keep pushing DOT to repave more of our highly distressed roadways.”

“The infrastructure improvements and paving of State Route 207 in New Windsor have been needed for a long time, with the amount of people, specifically New Windsor residents, who travel this road daily,” said Supervisor Bedetti. “I’d like to thank the DOT for listening to our concerns and getting this work done. I’d also like to thank Senator Skoufis for continually advocating with DOT on New Windsor’s behalf.  I look forward to working with both State DOT and Senator Skoufis to improve other state-maintained roads in New Windsor.”

At the urging of the public, DOT agreed to an overnight paving schedule to minimize the disruption to New Windsor residents and all others who use 207 to travel throughout the day. Work begins at 8:00 pm and continues until 6:00 am. The paving began July 17 and is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete. During the nightime work one lane will remain open.

Skoufis also obtained a $110,000 Grant for Johnson Road in Chester which connects Route 94 through farmland to Craigville Rd. which is a major connective link to Goshen from a highly trafficked area at the border of Chester and Blooming Grove. Chester will only have to contribute $10,000 for completion of the resurfacing. Chester Supervisor Brandon Holdridge thanked Skoufis for finalizing the application.
