OC Sheriff's Department K9 Graduates 10 Including K9 Marty, New Windsor's Elite Explosive Sniffer

K9 Marty has one of the best sniffers around. An elite Orange County Sheriff's Department graduate, Marty is an explosive device detection expert and can indicateon 21 explosive odors.


K9 Marty is a two-year-old German Shepherd, imported from the Slavic Republic. He is named after former New Windsor Police Detective Marty Mitchetti Jr. who passed away in 2005. Detective Mitchetti was a canine handler at the time of his death.


Marty is one of several K9’s and their officers graduated from police canine school this week where they were instructed in disciplines such as obedience, agility, evidence recovery, criminal apprehension, and searching for suspects and missing persons. The school, which runs 16 weeks, was hosted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
