Newburgh – A Newburgh City Democratic Committee member has announced his candidacy for an at-large seat on the city council this fall.
“Our community is struggling with the rising cost of living, from unaffordable rent to devastating utility expenses,” said Bryan Luna, a Newburgh native. “Our residents don’t have the luxury of waiting for federal and state politicians. A collaborative, accountable and decisive government is essential to address the challenges Newburgh faces.”
Luna said as a child of Mexican immigrants and a life-long Newburgh resident, “I want to contribute to the changes we are seeing in our community.”
He said while the city is “experiencing an important renaissance, we must also ensure that generations of community members aren’t being priced out of their neighborhoods.”
The city is attracting “economic anchors” to help it face some challenges including high unemployment and housing, but he said city officials “need to ensure that we are planning for an inclusive and sustainable Newburgh.”
