RCLS Receives $20,000 in State Funding from Assemblyman Brian Maher to Support Live Translation Devices in Libraries Middletown, NY April 7 - The Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS) is proud to announce it has received $20,000 in state funding secured by New York State Assemblyman Brian Maher (District 101) to enhance accessibility and communication services across public libraries in the region. The funds were used to purchase TranslateLive Instant Language Assistant (ILA) devices, innovative tools that provide real-time, two-way translation in over 200 languages and dialects. These devices support multilingual users and individuals with disabilities, including those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired. Thanks to this vital support, the following libraries in Assemblyman Maher’s district are now equipped with a live translation device: • Chester Public Library • Goshen Public Library & Historical Society • Daniel Pierce Library in Grahamsville • Livingston Manor Library • Roscoe Free Library • Josephine-Louise Public Library in Walden These devices help ensure that all community members, regardless of the language they speak or any communication challenges they may face, can access library services, reference support, and programs without barriers. On March 28, Assemblyman Maher visited the Josephine-Louise Public Library in Walden to view a device in action and speak with library staff about its impact. (Photo included) "Working with libraries in our communities is essential. Access to libraries and being able to communicate with every single family from all walks of life and backgrounds is important. This device will help libraries reach more families and better communicate with them," said Assemblyman Brian Maher. "We are deeply grateful to Assemblyman Maher for securing this funding and supporting comprehensive services in our libraries," said Grace Riario, Executive Director of RCLS. "TranslateLive devices are helping libraries meet the different needs of their communities by breaking down language and communication barriers for both multilingual individuals and those with disabilities."
