Katie Bonelli Files Petitions for Legislature Spot in Palm Tree

GOSHEN – Orange County Legislator Katie Bonelli, who lives in the Town of Blooming Grove, has filed petitions to run this fall in the newly reapportioned District 1 that includes the Town of Palm Tree and Village of Kiryas Joel.

Bonelli lives in the new District 21.

Bonelli, a Republican, did not return a phone call for comment.

If she is elected, it was not immediately known how long she have before she would have to move into the new district that she would represent.

One question remains, that being interpretation of the county charter law, which states: “At the time of his nomination and election, and throughout his term of office, each Legislator shall be and remain an elector of the district from which he is elected.”

Two candidates have filed petitions in the new 21st District, Dennis Leahy on the Democratic and Working Families parties, and Kathy Stegenga in the Republican and Conservative lines.
