Hudson Valley Communities Get $33M In Grants for Community Pools

ALBANY – Summer is just about over with Labor Day around the corner, but the state has awarded the Hudson Valley over $38 million in its “NY SWIMS” grant program to upgrade and build new swimming facilities.

The City of Newburgh will receive $8 million for its Delano Hitch Aquatics Center, which is nearing completion. It will replace the pool complex originally built in 1920 and include an ADA accessible competition size pool, changing rooms and restrooms, parking area, concession stand and splash pad.

The Ulster County pool at the fairgrounds in New Paltz will receive $3.9 million to renovate and upgrade the facilities including installing a pool bottom and piping.

The City of Kingston will receive $3.3 million for the Kingston Point Beach swimming facilities, which will design multi-tiered raised terraces to connect upland areas on either side of the existing beach to provide flood mitigation and protect the interior of Kingston Point against sea level rise.

Kingston will also receive $180,000 to renovate the Andretta Pool.

The Village of Millerton will receive over $6.3 million to construct a new outdoor swimming pool, community pool house and septic system at Eddie Collins Memorial Park.
