Few people anticipate change eagerly, unless they know it will be positive and/or fun, and or will make their lives more successful.
As we face what may be significant changes with this new President and his Administration, one thing should put us at ease, put any discomfort or fear on the shelf for awhile, and if the anxiety refuses to go away, put your anxiety into positive works, especially if they have the chance to dissolve what the anxiety is about. Don't rush to conclusions. Instead, let your intellectual understanding help the positive potential outcomes grow.
Let us all vow to be "Good Americans" in the best sense of the word.... Peaceloving, kind to our neighbors, resilient, strong and courageous. If we do that, all will be fine. Of course what constitutes a Good American varies from person to person. But there are some core values that we all share.
Seek knowledge. Seek peace. Where differences exist, try your best to develop good negotiation skills and use diplomacy, No matter how deep the divide you may be surprised at finding that a "middle ground" is there and can be encouraged to grow. If you can find some "goodness" in opponents and express it, they just may switch gears and find something they like about you and your ideas. You know the popular adage "You are what you eat." So it is with your mind. If you think mostly about physical violence or war, guess what will happen. So also it goes with World Peace....the more you observe and think about how it thrives, the better the chances we will accomplish it.
I was a child of the era of the new Peace Corps, and during my college years worked part-time for a Professor who was one of its leaders. It did wonderful work. The Peace Corps still exists, but how often do we see news about it. I think I will put that on the Courier Journal's Agenda for 2025... Peace Corps News.
Encourage our leaders to sponsor our freedoms, as long as they are expressed and demonstrated respectfully.
Use every opportunity and every small bit of wisdom and courage to make
peace rather than war. Be prepared for the potential of war, but don't let those efforts overshadow any and every opportunity for peaceful resolutions.
Celebrate America, but not at the expense of respecting and admiring the cultures and knowledge and beautiful environments of other countries.
If you are religious, you know that God sees the good in every human being. Whether God is a man with a beard, a woman, or a Heavenly Spirit shared by all, we should do the same. Look for the Helpers, look for the Good! BE one of the Helpers and one of the Good ones.
