Saturday 11/9 - It was one of the coldest mornings of the season, and after a week of chilly nights the water was not exactly welcoming. Nevertheless CE Neuhaus joined a large crowd of enthusiastic participants in a Polar Plunge held at the 'Rez" in Woodbury to compete with other groups of fundraisers in support of the Special Olympics. Indeed there were numerous other groups across New York, taking an unseasonable dip, each one much braver than the average New Yorker. While daytime temperatures this week were abnormally high, temps on Friday night hit the low 30's.
In his remarks about a lengthy list of other activities after having just returned from a Navy Reserves assignment, he joined area JROTC volunteers while they placed hundreds of American flags at the Veterans Cemetery in Goshen. He also joined the County Chamber of Commerce to recognize "Shooting Stars", citizens under 50 who contributed significant accomplishments for the benefit of Orange County this year.
Neuhaus also commented about election results earlier this week, saying that the results left some people happy, and others not. But he said he was glad to see that democracy worked, and there are many countries he has been where fair elections never happen, and that without knowing the candidates personally it is often difficult to determine the truth. He recommended that one of the best ways to move things forward in a positive way is to be active, join and contribute time to community groups. Bringing that philosophy home he said that after his son asked if Steve would treat him to a Hibachi dinner if he does well in a competition that's coming up, Steve told him he would treat him whether he won or not, emphasizing that "It's participating that counts!"
