HUDSON VALLEY HONOR FLIGHTS NEED HELP
One of our region's favorite groups that honors our heroic veterans needs your help! At the April 1 Blooming Grove Town Board Meeting, Supervisor, Rob Jeroloman announced that the Hudson Valley Honor Flight organization is low on volunteers. This is an important group and vital to remind yesteryear's veterans that we still remember the extreme sacrifices they made. It is also a day they get to assemble with many other veterans (some in their 80's and 90's), share memories and updates of their lives, and have an exciting flight to see special memorials at our Nation's Capital. Two trips are scheduled this Spring, one on April 12 and one on May 31. For details on this and to volunteer on an ongoing basis, please call the Town Hall at 845-496-5223 and you will be assisted in becoming a volunteer.
From Hudson Valley Honor Flight (HVHF) We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization which “Honors American Veterans” for all their sacrifices. We transport these heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials at no cost to them. We are a local hub of the National Honor Flight Network (which consists of over 100 independent non-profit “hubs” across America).
Hudson Valley Honor Flight flies multiple times a year out of Stewart International Airport & Westchester County Airport. HVHF serves veterans from the following counties: Orange (NY), Ulster (NY), Dutchess (NY), Westchester (NY), Rockland (NY), Sullivan (NY), Putnam (NY), Pike (PA), Bergen (NJ), and Fairfield (CT). Veterans from other surrounding counties will be considered as well.
SPRING IS SPORTS TIME!
BLOOMING GROVE BOYS YOUTH LACROSSE TEAM
Remember that Youth LaCrosse Team that started up a month or so ago? Well, here they go. BGYL This week they announced: "Great News Lacrosse fans! A coaches meeting was held last evening to iron out some of the final plans. "We have some excellent coaches from the High School Girls and Boys team helping with each team to further develop our young athletes.
The boys' coaches have set up TeamSnap temporarily as the Recreation Department sets up a transition to Sports Engine. This is a requirement for teams to participate in for ease of scheduling etc.
As our season progresses there will be adjustments to the schedule to coordinate fields etc. We have added a game on 4/12 in Wallkill for the boys and will be coordinating with them to add additional girls games as well.
K-2 and 3-4 Boys will begin as scheduled on 4/8 unless otherwise notified." See their FB page for more details as to scheduling times and games.

OPENING DAY PARADE FOR LITTLE LEAGE
The Washingtonville Little League Opening Day Parade is coming up on April 12.

PICKLEBALL AND BASKETBALL COURTS
Pickleball Anyone? On Tuesday the Town authorized payment for Premier Fence Company for work they have done and continue to perform at the new May's Field courts. With the weather warming up it should not take long for them to be finished Given the rate that this sport is fluorishing, and the busy scheduling at the Vern Allen courts, additional courts near the center of the Village will help make this relatively new and very popular sport accessible for everyone. The adjacent new basketball court has already been very busy, and players are looking forward to the final coats and striping.
SENIOR CENTER LAST STEPS TO COMPLETION UNDER WAY
Everyone has been waiting for the new Senior Center at Lasser Park to be in full use. It is already being used for Recreation Activities, but the Town has been waiting to have a real "Opening" when the Seniors arrive. Having Blooming Grove Seniors enjoy a brand new spacious 6,000 sq. ft. facility will be, so to say, a 'shot in the arm' for them. The amenities and broadening of activities for them will be a game-changer for many. The missing piece has been a new dedicated electric line and finishing of the Kitchen HVAC Improvements so that their meals can be safely (and deliciously) prepared per code. This is a code restriction and also a requirement for the grant funding. This week the HVAC was awarded to T.M. Brennen Service, Inc. for an amount not to exceed $236,000.00. Given all of the unavoidable delays, Supervisor Jeroloman has been hesitant to give an opening date, but he is cautiously optimistic it will be by July.
LOCAL POLICE STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE WITH DIGNITY FOR OFFICER JOSE SANTIAGO

Last, but certainly not the least.... with police groups and public filling the streets and sidewalks of the Village of Washingtonville last weekend, in a massive procession to honor Officer Jose Santiago after his tragic accident, this reporter kept looking for Blooming Grove Police. I knew they had to be honoring Officer Santiago somewhere. Where were they? Deputy Supervisor,
Cathy Acevedo contacted me saying that they had stepped out of the limelight and stepped up to the plate with dignity, taking all of the calls that would normally go to the Village, both before, during and after the Event. They also worked aloongside of NYPD in managing the large volume of traffic.
Supervisor Jeroloman commented on the long list of participants and emphasized what a tremendous effort was carried out amazingly well by both the Town and Village departments. In addition to taking the brunt of Washingtonville calls just before and during the event, (in addition to their own), Blooming Grove police had taken on the task of contacting and coordinating all of the participating police departments from the region, both with vehicles and 2 very large groups of officers on motorcycles regarding their arrival, assembly, procession with several stops (without significantly impacting the business and plan to travel some of the busiest roads in the area, and then to escort the hearse to a cremation site in New Jersey, The Procession was serious, impactful, and gave due honor to a local hero who served our towns and villages as well as NYPD for 40 years.
