The new span of the Schunnemunk Rail Trail, obtained through the Open Space Institute, stretches from the former Camp LaGuardia site owned by Blooming Grove and Chester and extending to Cornwall, and is likely to be one site to be considered when considering funding applications.
One week after another a very appreciated funding package was given to Blooming Grove received $500k to use in their Preservation Program, the Town of Cornwall received a welcome package as well at $400k.
Blooming Grove has been identifying what they consider as important preservation parcels during the past year. Town Supervisor, Rob Jeroloman, and his Town Board had sought environmental funding via a PDR Program during the past several years. When Governor Hochul veto'd those efforts, Town Planner Bonnie Franson spoke with the Board and residents about alternatives included a Preservation Plan identifying sites where it could be most beneficial.

Board member Johanna Kiernan assisted in the environmental search for a list of best uses among the Town's most valued land and those which they think most need protection. Jeroloman, very grateful for the Skoufis successful funding, said that while the site where it will be used is somewhat discretionary, there is a list of conditions that they will be using while they make their decisions).
We are all eager to learn what choices Blooming Grove is considering for use of the $500k.
Cornwall - Today, Senator Skoufis and Cornwall Supervisor, Josh Wojehowski announced that the Town of Cornwall is also receiving a nice grant of $400k that will be used for renovation of its Riverlight Park and replacement of its aging playground. Wojehowski said that this project scope has already been developed, and an RFP is close to being released for equipment and construction contractors. Also in attendance was Council Member Virginia Scott.
"Investing in our aging recreational and park infrastructure has been a priority of mine since coming into office", said Supervisor Wojehowski. "Funding secured by Senator Skoufis will allow us to replace a playground and add amenities to Riverlight Park, which serves as a central gathering place for our community and hosts many activities for residents of all ages."

The Town of Cornwall will break ground for this project in Spring 2025. "Getting kids outdoors into fun and safe environments has always been a priority for me", said Senator Skoufis. "Riverlight Park is right in the center of Cornwall. It hosts the farmer's market, Little League fields, and town events like the 4th of July celebration. Improvements to the well-used park, including a new playground, will benefit Cornwall residents for years to come.
